What is GameSense?

GameSense is AGLC’s responsible gambling program, designed to give players tools and resources to make informed gambling choices. Under license from the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), GameSense is used in several jurisdictions around North America to better promote a unified, responsible gambling experience.

Information on how the games are played, the odds of winning and the house advantage are available to patrons at casinos, racing entertainment centres, Play Alberta and GameSenseAB.ca. Additionally, the GameSense Info Line (1-833-447-7523) is available to patrons, connecting them with a GameSense Advisor.

GameSense Advisors make up the front-line staff of AGLC’s GameSense Program. Located on-site in casinos and racing entertainment centres around the province, they offer patrons guidance regarding responsible play. Advisors support topics regarding budgeting, gambling concerns, navigating and accessing various community resources and support for patrons, including AGLC's Self-Exclusion Program. GameSense Advisors ensure that GameSense is easily accessible and provide support to all players, whether new to gambling, experienced players or simply looking to engage more with their local venue.

GameSense Info Centres are located within each casino and racing entertainment centre to provide a safe and comfortable environment for every patron interaction. Players can find brochures on how the games work, the odds, community resources and AGLC’s Self-Exclusion Program.

Casino staff members are also part of the GameSense support network and take mandatory SMART Training. This training is required by AGLC to ensure that casino staff members have the knowledge and abilities to foster responsible gambling within their venues and how to respond to patrons who ask for help. GameSense Advisors collaborate with staff at casinos and racing entertainment centres to promote responsible gambling. They provide education on safe play practices, help identify signs of at-risk gambling and offer information about available programs, services and resources to support individuals in need.
