Lottery Games
Lottery
It’s one of the most common ways to gamble online or in-person. Learn how to use your GameSense while playing lottery games.
Lotteries take many forms, but most involve a random draw of numbers. If your numbers match the randomly selected numbers, you win. The more of your numbers that match the ones drawn, the bigger the prize you win.
All winning lottery numbers are determined using a computer based Random Number Generator (RNG). The RNG continuously cycles through thousands of numbers each second with each number being correlated to a single number within the range required by the specific game being drawn for (i.e.: 1-50 or 1-49). When the draw attendant requests a number from the computer, the number on the RNG at that exact moment is provided and translated into its represented game number. Requesting a number one thousandth of a second earlier or later would result in a completely different number. The results of an RNG are secure and random, contributing to the fairness of lottery styled games.
How to Play
Lottery games may have different themes, variations, additional prize pools and price points; however, the wagering process is similar amongst them all. Always be sure to read the game rules and follow the instructions while completing a game selection slip. Tickets can be purchased online or in-person from authorized retailers prior to the draw’s cut off time of 8:30 p.m. MST.
- Confirm the selection slip you are completing is for the game you wish to play. Some selection slips may combine different games or variations all on the same slip with a way to indicate which game(s) you are wishing to play. Be sure to complete this section before moving on. Single game selection slips will not have a space provided.
- Select the numbers you wish to play: Indicate your chosen numbers in the selection field that you would like to wager on being drawn for the games you are betting on. Complete a board for each set of numbers that you wish to submit. Be sure to select the correct number of entries as specified in the game rules.
- Indicate if you wish to participate in the additional wager (EXTRA): if you wish to participate in the EXTRA additional wager for a supplementary draw prize, select YES or No in the proper area.
- Select how many consecutive draws you want to play: Choose the number of back-to-back draws that you wish to play using the same Board and wager for 1, 2, 5, 10, or 25 games.
- Confirm your selection: when everything is completed, submit your selection to the retailer or online service and proceed with payment for your total wager. Once payment is confirmed and you have your ticket, you’re eligible for the next scheduled draw or any advance-play games you purchased.
Please remember:
Ensure your ticket is printed or digitally confirmed before the draw cutoff time.
Keep your ticket safe—it’s required to claim any prize.
Payouts
Prize amounts vary depending on the game and how many of your selected numbers match the numbers drawn for the event you bet on. The more matches you have, the bigger your potential payout! In situations where there are multiple winners who select the same numbers, prizes may be split and awarded to each winner. For detailed payout information, please visit your local lottery retailer or visit them online.
Variations
Quick Pick: when purchasing lottery products, players can request a Quick Pick for their favorite games. This allows the player to make the same purchasing choices in the game they wish to play, if they wish to participate in the EXTRA or additional – draws, and how many games they would like to play, without having to select individual numbers or fill out a selection sheet. When the player gives the purchasing information to a retailer, a random number generator selects their betting numbers for them and prints the ticket for purchase.
